ABOUT THE LIBERATION LINE
The Liberation Line was established in April 2024 as a form of community care at the height of the student encampments which called for the liberation of Palestine, institutional transparency and divestment from funding a genocide. We came to life in response to systems that do not serve us, radically reimaging and co-creating new paths forward.
WHO IS THE LIBERATION LINE FOR?
The Liberation Line is open to any organizer or activist involved in social or political change, who may be impacted by police or state brutality, counter protestor violence, racism, oppression, or is experiencing conflict, stress, burnout or trauma related to their community organizing or activism. These calls are free confidential, non-crisis, non-therapy calls meant to offer support, listening, resources, processing, debriefing or strategizing.
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT?
As a safeguard, all callers must download the Signal app in order to receive a call from a Liberation Line volunteer.
You will receive a phone call via Signal from one of our volunteers at the time for which you booked your call.
We'll try calling twice, but if you are unreachable your call appointment will be cancelled and we encourage you to rebook a new call.
Calls are generally 30-minutes and you can book up to 2 calls in a week, but not on the same day.
Calls are conducted in English at this time, but callers can indicate when booking if they have a language request and we will try our best to accommodate.
We are unable to match callers with requests for specific volunteers.
WHEN ARE YOU OPEN?
The Liberation line offers call windows every other week, from Wednesdays to Sunday. Please visit our home page where you will find our most up to date booking calendar.
DO YOU TRANSFER TO 911?
We are not a crisis line, however we do require callers to provide the name/number of a trusted contact in the event of a crisis. We do not transfer to 911 unless a caller requests this.
If you are experiencing a crisis, call or text Blackline (prioritizing BIPOC) 800-604-5841, Trans Lifeline 877-565-8860 or click here for more crisis services and information about police intervention.
